COL. OFF'
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 13th July, 1927.
Sir,
With reference to your despatch No.150 of 2nd
June, 1927, transmitting copies of Colonial Office Printed
Memorandum Eastern No.121 (Fifth Edition), I have the honour
to request that it may be made clear to any candidate for
service under this Government to whom this memorandum may be
sent that the rules for leave only apply to officers on the
permanent establishment.
The leave rules for officers on the temporary
establishment (which includes officers on agreement) set out
in the enclosed copy of General Order 147 are less liberal;
and, as the great bulk of the European staff of this service
is recruited on agreement for three years, it will be
inconvenient if candidates are led to expect that the rules
in Eastern No.121 apply to an officer immediately on joining
the service.
2.
I would also observe with reference to
paragraph 7 of the memorandum that contribution to the
Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme is confined to male
officers.
Eg
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
&c.,
&c.,
&c.
DGOV
Governor, &c.
